Directions for installing Caligari 1.3a - 2.x on a hard disk:
From the Workbench, place the pointer over the Broadcast: disk icon,
and double-click the left mouse button. Move the pointer over the Caligari
drawer in the window which opens, depress and hold down the left mouse
button, and drag the drawer icon over the disk icon for the hard disk
partition on which you wish to install Caligari Broadcast, and release
the left mouse button.
If the screen flashes, an error has occured. If the partition
already contains a Caligari drawer, either install Caligari Broadcast
on another partition, or select the offending Caligari drawer, and select
"Discard" from the "Workbench" menu and try to install Caligari again.
Another possibility is that the hard disk partition is already full.
Double click the partition's disk icon, and if the `fuel gauge' at the left
side of the resulting window is nearly full then you may have to "Discard"
some projects, tools, or drawers before you can install Caligari.
When the drawer has finished copying, double-click the left mouse
button on the partition's disk icon, locate the Caligari drawer (you may
have to use the `scroll bars' to find it) and double-click it too. Now
double-click the "Caligari-Setup" icon and wait for it to finish. If the
screen flashes, check use the Shell to verify that the file iconX is in
the C: directory using the command "List C:iconX". If it is not there,
find your original Workbench 1.3.X disk and copy iconX from its C directory
to your C: directory and try again. If you copy Caligari Broadcast
inside another drawer, you will have to use a text editor to change the
"Caligari-Setup" file before Caligari will run correctly.
To complete the installation, double-click on the "Install_2" icon,
and insert the Caligari-Rendition and Caligari-Data disks in turn when
requested. When this finishes copying files, your installation should
be complete.
You should now be able to double-click on the Caligari project
icon and run Caligari Broadcast.
From the Shell:
This section will be brief because of the increased sophistication
of the intended audience and the great number of installation config-
urations which are possible. Let's assume that we are installing Caligari
Broadcast on hard disk partition User: (it could be DH0:, FH1:, or
NeatStuff:). We might do this:
MakeDir User:Caligari
Copy from Broadcast-TRANSPORT:Caligari to User:Caligari all
Copy from Caligari-Rendition:di to RenditionDI:
Copy from Caligari-Rendition:null to RenditionDD:
Copy from Caligari-Data:data to CalData:
To run Caligari Broadcast:
Cd User:Caligari
Execute Caligari-Setup
Caligari
To use Caligari-Setup in your Startup-Sequence, either Cd to the
directory containing Caligari-Setup, or edit Caligari-Setup or your
Startup-Sequence to include the complete paths for the Assigns.
Some notes on the files which come supplied with Caligari Broadcast:
The CalData directory and its contents should be copied to the new
directory on the hard disk. The CalData directory MUST exist in the new
Caligari directory.
If the "startup.scr" or "startup.scr.pal" files are only used in the
startup screen, which will not be displayed if they are not present.
IMPORTANT PAL USERS!
It may be neccessary on PAL machines to rename "startup.scr.pal" as
"startup.scr. Otherwise on some machines an error "-3" may occur.
If the "primobjs.idx" and "primobjs.dat" files are not present, the
`Primitives' menu will not be loaded in the object design mode.
The file "calconfig.sys" is the configuration file. If "calconfig.sys"
is not present, it will be created when the program runs. This file stores
your extruder and navigation menu preferences.
The file "displayconfig.sys" contains the current Broadcast display
parameters. This file is not supplied on the distribution disks. It is
created by clicking on the "Save" button in the Brender/Display menu.
The "sphere.scene" and "sphere.complex" files contain the data
definitions of the sphere that is rendered with the "Render Sphere" button
in the Brender/Attrib menu.
The files in the Environments directory are 1-dimensional maps.
Caligari Broadcast also allows you to create 2-Dimensional environment maps
under program control. Please see the manual for more details.
The files in Rend_DI and Rend_Null are programs from Rendition, a
renderer from Numerical Design, Ltd. These are VERY IMPORTANT to the
operation of Caligari Broadcast.
In the Tools directory, you will find some utilities. "PC" is a
command which allows you to execute commands on the PC or AT BridgeBoard
from an Amiga Shell when AmiTarga.Exe ot AmiVista.Exe is running on the
BridgeBoard. This file is crucial to Caligari Broadcast's ability to
display renderings on the Targa or Vista boards. "MakeTexture" is a Shell
script which you can execute to copy an uncompressed Targa format image
from the BridgeBoard to the CalTexture: directory. It uses both "PC" and
"win2rn" to do this. MakeTexture works on all 16 and 32 ".WIN" files, but
may also work on some ".TGA" files, namely those which are not incompressed
format.
If you decide to modify batch files such as "MakeTexture" or
"Caligari-Setup" you will need to protect them afterwards. Use command
"Protect FILE +S", where FILE is a name of the modified script. Do this
before "Caligari-Setup" is run.
The Scratch directory is empty on the distribution, but Caligari
Broadcast will write several scene, intermediate, and log files into it
during the course of rendering. You may find it very instructional to
examine these files using Type, More, or a text editor.
